Gratitude Practice 2021 Day 347: Strong Bold Boundary Breaking Women…THE Real Change Makers

Wow! Today was nothing short of incredible and I am beyond grateful for the example of the boundary breaking women who were celebrated and elevated today during the inauguration of President Joe Biden. Grateful to have shared this historic moment with my tiny firecracker, Sarah Kate. Grateful she made it through most of the inauguration. Grateful that like her Mama she asks endless questions. Hopeful that she will always remember this big day and confident that I always will.

Grateful for these powerful change making women. Grateful for their words... powerful words both boldly and carefully spoken today and for those so respectfully not. Grateful for their individual and collective grace, for their undeniable grit, for their absolute faith, for their without question determination, for their unquestionable perseverance, for their vision, for their lasting leadership and for their resilience in the face of criticism which for each of them has been plentiful and for character building circumstances.

Grateful for Amy Klobuchar's grace and real-ness. Grateful for Firefighter Andrea Hall's simple yet deliberate advocacy as she led the Pledge Of Allegiance today in English and in Sign Language…what a refreshing and powerful addition and declaration. Grateful for Lady Gaga and Jennifer Lopez...these ladies never disappoint. And grateful today for the wives…oh my, how I am grateful for those Presidential wives... what a club!...just think of the hazing rituals and the membership fees….THEY are the real heroes of American politics...talk about a tricky gig…. always grateful for dear Barbara, and for prickly Hillary, for the powerhouse Michelle, for wise Dr. Jill and today,...totally impressed and grateful for the grace, poise and composure of Second Lady Karen Pence….can you even imagine the kind of month that woman has had? AND she showed up today in her nice navy coat and matching gloves demonstrating incredible maturity and professionalism and respect...talk about class! Talk about love of husband and country! Talk about womanhood! I am grateful for each of these dynamic women who let's get real just want to wear leggings and shop with girl friends at Target on weekends...these women set examples of pushing forward through diverse, dynamic and demanding personal situations and they do it for all to watch. Nothing easy about that gig and all in their own way inspiring change and progress along the way.

Of course grateful and inspired by the collection of so many firsts gathered in one place. Grateful to watch the first woman...the first woman of color...the first woman of color Madam Kamala Harris to be elected as the Vice President...WOW! Just WOW This still makes me weepy...To be sworn into office by Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor...the first Latina to serve on the nation’s highest court…this is no small thing. Both of these women came from such humble and challenging circumstances and yet both have accomplished incredible things. I am grateful everyday for their example and feel confident that young women of all backgrounds and circumstances will soon begin processing and considering their futures differently going forward. This is no small thing.

Then...so incredibly inspired by the next generation that is going to completely school all of us and quickly....Amanda Gorman the youngest inaugural poet in U.S. history….I will be forever grateful for her compelling words! Her words completely captured all my feelings of hope and gratitude...and I am stunned by her writing.

Grateful to feel inspired by these powerful women and for their example of hard work and heart work. Grateful to be reminded of what real leadership looks like and feels like and that change is not only possible but that change...real actual change and progress is actually happening. Knowing this... seeing this... witnessing this today...this was real big for both my spirit and my soul.
