Gratitude Practice 2015 Day #17: The Soup Kitchen
For well over a decade, the managing staff for YouthCity has met for a post meeting lunch at The Soup Kitchen...nearly every Wednesday...like clockwork since 2002. This Salt Lake City treasure serves soup and sandwiches and a surprisingly tasty cheeseburger. They make a mean creamy tomato. A credible broccoli cheese. Their chicken noodle is a staple. And the beef....can't really comment on the beef which in almost ten years of Wednesdays...I've never sampled. Spicy chicken and wild rice is always a winner. And a refreshing gazpacho is offered but only in the summer months and sometimes chilli appears when the weather turns cold. Bread sticks. Piles and piles of cheese, garlic or whole wheat bread sticks are complimentary with each cup or bowl and are essential with every visit. Tasty sandwiches are served in colorful plastic baskets complete with a happy orange slice garnish. Food from this menu has fueled the creation and maintenance of the city's youth program... for years. The seating and decor are humble yet functional and have served as our remote conference room session after session and summer after summer and kid after kid. We've been eating there so long that their staff recognizes us and greets us warmly each time we meet them at the front of the line to place our orders. The Soup Kitchen is our "Cheers'' and I'm so grateful to call this place...our place. Today I'm grateful for my ever-talented colleagues and for the work we have done over cups and bowls and bowls and cups of warm yummy soup.
