Gratitude Practice 2021 Nov 14: “More”…Antelope Island Adventuring
We are forever fans of this gnarly breathtaking island. I find great beauty in the desolation and stillness of this remarkable landmark. Each time we go I am stunned by the rolling hills, the spray of wild colors, the confident roaming buffalo, the haunting cliffs, the stillness of both the waving grass and the shrinking water. Grateful for the peaceful sense of removal from real life...a sacred suspension even...as you can see the silhouette and twinkly lights of the city anchoring reality in the distance...this silly Island provides a respite and release and removal that my soul craves. We explored a new path today and found ourselves alone at a place where the gentle grasslands end and the protective beaches begin. Arriving at this unknown spot just a short mile down the road...just the three of us...with nothing but nature and God's goodness as our companion...it was as holy as any church service I've ever attended. Words from a favorite hymn entered my head and heart…"More holiness give me...More strivings within...More patience in suff’ring...More sorrow for sin...More faith in my Savior...More sense of his care…" Sitting on a sunbathed rock giggling and talking and connecting with my people it became clear I was in need of... just a bit...more. More love for myself and others. More breath and breathing. More poise and perspective and patience and protections and persistence. More understanding. More information. More identifiers. More conviction. More compassion. More connectivity. More clarity. More direction. More discretion. More benchmarks. More boundaries. More limits. More abilities to love. Super grateful for big important insights discovered and remembered roaming around a somewhat deserted island.
It's always a mixed bag talking about this place to people...kinda don't want to tell anyone about this secret treasure and at the same time feel confident everyone should visit this strange wonderful floating hunk of land. Grateful for another restorative day with my two favorite people. Grateful for "the more" I received today...always end up leaving this crazy island with way more than I started.
