Gratitude Practice 2022 Nov 4: Voting, Taylor Swift and Salt Lake City’s Very Own Mr. Rogers
A few nights ago, while enjoying some leftover chicken pot pie, Burke and I sat at our kitchen counter and researched candidates while listening to the new award winning T Swift album. We went candidate by candidate and issue by issue and song by song and cast our votes. All things politics seem equal parts weighty and crucial these days and I'm forever grateful for the opportunity to vote.
Lots to be decided with this election…lots on the line…but that could be said of all election cycles. We live about two blocks outside Salt Lake City proper and the Salt Lake City School District. IF…IF...those two measly blocks were not in place…and IF I lived just a smidge father up the street...I'd be first in line to vote Bryan Jensen for Salt Lake City School Board. Bryan Jensen is the REAL DEAL! He is a celebrated and talented educator with 11 years of teaching experience…INSIDE…the Salt Lake City School District. AND he's an attorney, a community leader, a Dad, Grandpa, Husband and an all around really good guy. Some may even refer to him as our community's version of Mr. Rogers...and they would not be wrong…just look at his collection of sweaters. He is running for the school board because fellow teachers and community members are interested in placing someone with real actual district teaching experience in a decision making capacity….which pretty much seems like the best idea ever save only Taylor's new CD. Should you live in precinct #6…please give this talented educator a serious look and consideration. We need a lot more Mr. Jensen's in the world.
Grateful for the opportunity to participate in the adventure known as democracy. Grateful for a growing awareness and understanding of how the whole circus works. Grateful for the ease and convenience of a mail in ballot. Grateful for those courageous souls who put the time, money, effort and skin in this game….nothin easy or cheap or comfortable about holding an elected office. Grateful for Mr. Jensen and all of the years of good service within our community. Grateful for Bryan's willingness to continue to do a little good along the way. Grateful. Hopeful. Voted.
P.S. T Swift for President!
