Gratitude Practice 2021 Day 337: Lessons in Leadership

Like every thinking human on the planet the topic of leadership has been at the forefront of my mind this week.

What does it mean to be a leader?

What qualifies and disqualifies a person for the role of leadership?

What necessitates a good or a bad leader? Who has a greater impact on the world...a good leader or a poor one?

Does leadership have to be elected or appointed or established or formally identified or is it more powerful if it naturally materializes?

How does one lose or gain efficacy as a leader?

Can one person be both an effective and ineffective leader...at the same time? To the same group of people?

Leadership as a concept and as a practice weighs heavy on my heart and mind these days and I am grateful for what I am learning about both in my real life and from our local and national leaders.

Without question this news article about how Rep. Andy Kin responded after the riots at the US Capital this week outlines what real leadership looks like inside a very complicated politically compromised world. We need more of this kind of leadership.

Tonight, I am grateful for this brave leader and his shining example of what it really means to show up, lead out and quietly make a big difference.
