Gratitude Practice 2020 Day 298:The First Ever Rich Family Turkey Pinta
What's a family to do when it's too dark and cold outside to ride bikes, go on walks, play in the garden, explore nearby parks or race around our backyard? How do you fill the post-school/work but pre-bed/bath time when it's pitch black and freezing outside by 6pm each night? How do you prevent yourself from going completely bonkers, keep your child alive, AND keep your family intact when eight months into homebound pandemic living? What is our only course of action? What is THE only idea left in the mental hopper? Well, you do the only thing you can do...you spend ten glorious bucks at the dollar store on crate paper, glue, balloons and napkins and you make the first ever Rich Family Turkey Pinta, of course.
Grateful for not just the hours but for the DAYS this project has taken. Grateful for the gloopy glue covered hands and ribbony piles of cut up junk mail catalogs (I knew I was saving them for a good reason). Grateful for the technical challenge of interpreting SK's description of what a turkey pinta really was and then helping her bring it to life. Grateful for the time spent looking at and learning about turkeys…I mean who knew? So much to learn...the turkey is a facisaniting creature and God bless the world wide web. And mostly grateful for the squeals of surprise and delight and wonder as this silly turkey pinta has taken shape. Grateful for these moments and memories and for her growing creative confidence.
And for those curious...the Rich Family Turkey Pinta remains an unfinished masterpiece and therefore is still intact but rest assured an appropriate amount of candy was consumed throughout this entire process.
