Gratitude Practice 2024 March 6: My Grandmother's Quit

Grandma's know. They just know…they notice…they watch…they somehow future jump decades forward to anticipate real credible needs…and then they open up their scrap bin and sift and sort and then weeks later a whole new comfort is brought into the world. Grateful for my humble, resourceful and visionary grandmother who somehow just knew that her one day 47 years old granddaughter would cling to this quilt in a most desperate and sacred time. Grateful for the stack of similar quilts she created that live now in every room of our home and comfort me and my little family. Grateful for the vintage memories of her colorful fabric box…some scraps from her dresses and skirts…some tablecloths and curtains…and all bright and bold and full of life and pattern and color…all of the things her tender Grandma heart wanted and provided for me way back then and just as much today. Grateful for this tiny act of love and kindness that is holding me tight and wrapping me up in safety and comfort and love.

…And I'm totally confident that my sweet Grandma would totally agree that cancer…is total %$#@$_&-+(!()/ she could be scrappy like that.
